Vacations are supposed to be about having fun and getting some R and R. However, you have to keep your body prepared for all the activities you are most likely going to do. Travelling, binging on delicious food, late night partying and drinking can all cause a stir in your diet and immune system. So, plan ahead and keep your body fit during and even before and after you head up to your summer getaway.

Before your vacation, give your immune system a boost. Travelling means you’ll encounter lots of people in the airport or train terminals so you have to strengthen up your body’s defenses against coughs and colds. If you plan about sampling great cuisines to where you are headed to, prep up your GI tract by popping up some probiotics. Gastritis and diarrhea are common during traveling because eating outside subjects you to food that may not be well-prepared. And, if you plan to go on late night parties then try to get lots of sleep several days before you go. Don’t forget to bring with you some medications like antacids, antihistamines, pain relievers and anti-diarrheal medications.

During your vacation don’t just lounge out in the sun. Instead, go swimming. Take up activities that involve you moving actively like hiking, biking or walking in the beach or the mall. Rather than being glued to your seat and sipping your drinks, get up and dance on the floor. To avoid weight gain, designate one meal each day as a splurge. Eat fruits and drinks lots of water.

After your vacation, try easing your way into your exercise and diet routines. Don’t let yourself get caught up by post-vacation syndrome. Keep yourself moving and busy so you can get back to your usual self and routine right away.

Not all of us are blessed with perfect genes. Our parents and forefathers can essentially pass on to us some stinking body-related problems that can lead to sure embarrassment. Body conditions such as bad breath, stinky feet and uncontrollable restroom stops are all huge problems some of us have to deal with.

People suffer from bad breath despite taking every precaution to avoid having one. They brush their teeth several times a day, floss them and give them some mouthwash rinse. Yet, the odor can creep up within an hour. If you have this stinking problem, you might want to visit your dentist. Perhaps, there’s a cavity lurking somewhere in between our teeth or the alcohol in your mouthwash has dried up your oral tissues. When brushing, always include your tongue. Eliminating certain types of food (like sugary ones and garlic) and improving your digestive system can also help to eliminate bad breath.

Taking off your shoes cause everybody to go scampering out, such is the case if you have athlete’s foot. Stinky feet are gross and people who are blessed with thousands of sweat glands in their feet are not that thankful. Perspiration doesn’t smell however if your foot is left unattended for long it can be a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. To combat athlete’s foot, use medicated powder and keep your feet dry at all times. Always wear clean and absorbent socks and keep your closed shoes aerated and let them dry before using them again. Using antiperspirant on your feet is also a great remedy.

Finally, you have to deal with the uncontrollable bowel movement. You left the house to jog or perhaps go walking in the mall and then suddenly you have the urge to make a restroom stop. Medical experts say this is probably due to exercise or increased in bodily movement. The bowel becomes more active, hence, the situation. Fortunately, this condition can be easily solved. Finding the right pattern is the key. The colon is active in the early morning so postpone your walk before you’d had your toilet visit. Keep track how long after you’ve eaten the meal has gone through your system and create a schedule based on that. You may also use an anti-diarrheal tablet to combat the situation.

Whether it’s chocolate or bag of chips, all of us have experienced food cravings. It is normal to crave food once in a while. But if it becomes a habit, then it can wreak havoc to your diet. Food cravings can sometimes go overboard that we tend to forget that we had another helping of ice cream or it’s our third plate of the cake. All too suddenly, we blame ourselves for overeating and there’s the instant depressing state that makes you crave for more food again. Before you know it, you have plunged into the vicious cycle of emotional eating.

There are ways to eliminate food cravings. One weight loss study suggested you can give in to the best cravings. Instead of treating yourself to low fat desserts on a daily basis, you can binge on the ultimate calorie-packed dessert you really love. The only catch here is you have to do it less often, perhaps as a weekly or a bi-monthly treat. This way you can stick to your diet and have something to look forward to.

Another thing is to distract yourself. Think about other things that will make you forget about the food. Volunteers from an experiment suggested thinking about rainbows or the smell of eucalyptus to help reduce food cravings.

Don’t watch TV. A study has shown that watching TV has caused an increase in snack consumption. So, skip some shows for a while because the tempting food ads may veer you away from your diet.

Have a check-up with your physician. Sheer willpower is sometimes not enough to overcome food cravings. An underlying hormonal imbalance or nutrient deficiency might be the culprit. Have yourself tested so you get the proper medical intervention that you need. You may also try employing a new psychological acupuncture technique to eliminate your food cravings. This technique involves tapping on pressure points while focusing your mind on other thoughts.

The man cave is simply a masculine lair. It’s the spot in the house which highly speaks of everything the man wants and desires. It can be a garage, a den, a basement or an attic that the man of the house can retreat to. It is designed by the man for his own enjoyment and satisfaction and something he can share with his male buddies. Think of it as a home male version of the female spa, nail salon and shoe closet all in one.

Typical features of a man cave include a poker table, billiard table, bar or video games. Though, it basically depends on the preferences of the male homeowner. A basketball sports fan, for instance, can introduce a basketball ring into his man cave along with lockers and basketball posters. A rocker would undoubtedly put soundproof walls so he can jam all night long. Someone who’s into video games and computers will obviously put consoles and PC units into his gaming lair. Whatever the styles and designs are, the area ultimately reflects the personality of the man.

In order to give the room a truly masculine look there are some things that should be incorporated into the design. First and foremost, there should be an ultra comfortable chair which the man can consider his throne. It can be a recliner, an upholstered arm chair, a bean bag or a video game chair. Of course, the cool electronics comprising of the huge flat screen TV and an immense sound system is ever-present. Men love to watch their sports – be it basketball, football or baseball. When TV time is over, attention is often spun on whatever gaming consoles or equipment is present. Every man cave boasts of a few pieces of gaming equipment. Finally, men when engrossed in their sports or video games have barely the time to get up for their drinks. Hence, a small freezer, kegerator or bar is always a nice touch inside the man cave.

Couples sleeping apart are not uncommon. Some may be ashamed to admit it but a lot of couples don’t share the same bed or bedroom at all. While we have the tendency to jump into conclusion that the marriage may be on the rocks, for some it is not so. There have been couples who have been married for so many years who practice this somewhat odd setting.

There are a variety of reasons why couples don’t sleep together in the same bed or bedroom. Snoring is probably the most common culprit. A light sleeper would find it hard to rest and sleep with a partner snoring like a train. What is sharing the same bedroom if one partner can’t have a good night’s rest? It will only lead to a stressful morning the next day. Lack of sleep can cause a strain on a person who has to face tons of workload in the office. So, a few adjustments have to be made to keep each other on a healthy level. A good night’s rest on a separate bedroom will help each partner cope with stress from work and it will be better for their relationship.

Others may share the same bedroom but not the same bed. Sometimes the spouse is not snoring but he or she may be tossing or turning while sleeping. Having his and her bed and pushing them together can create a harmonious sleeping time. This may also work well with couples who have varied work schedules. If you’re someone who just got home tired from work and has drifted to sleep, surely you don’t want to be woken up in an hour by the ruckus of your partner waking up from bed and getting ready for work.

Birthday parties are simple occasions then. A few snacks and a game shared with friends and the celebration is over. Nowadays, however, there’s a new trend on how the birthday parties are celebrated. Now there’s the existence of the birthday party goodie bag. This thing has crept up into fashion and has been the craze all too sudden in birthday parties.

I stumbled upon an article with one parent undecided about preparing a party goodie bag or just sending cupcakes for preschooler classmates of her daughter. Weekly, her daughter is bringing a party goodie bag and the contents are escalating from a simple lollipop wrapped in clear plastic to a backpack with a boatload of goodies. It’s crazy, right? The simple party goodie bag has become a source of competition among parents in here. Everyone wants to get ahead of the other. This is exciting, though. Who knows by the end of the school year her daughter will be bringing home a cool cell phone. Hah!

Anyway, in truth, I don’t see any need for these goodie bags. As a celebrant, I’d rather receive gifts than giving them out. Do we really have to give them a token for coming? I don’t think so. The food we prepared for them to feast on would clearly suffice.

Birthday party goodie bags are cute. But with the hard economy these days, why spend your money on personalized bags and plastic toys that will most likely be thrown away? Competing with other parents in terms of birthday party goodie bags is way out of hand. Focus on the real essence of the celebration itself. The birthday celebrant should have a fun time blowing his birthday candles and share this occasion with family and friends.

First dates are make-or-break situations for two people. The date can either progress in a fantastic way or end up in a horrible or pretty embarrassing moment. In this occasion the ladies are almost always critical of the guys. But, hey, this event involves not only one but two people and that means you and the guy. So, remember ladies the cute guys are also screening your attitude up. If you really like the guy asking you out, there are ways you can make an impression on him and win him over on the first date.

First and foremost, appreciate his efforts. The guy went out of his way to reserve a table in a restaurant for you or take you to a really beautiful place. Telling him that you like the view or that the food tastes great will make the guy feel some relief. Take note that planning a date can put a lot of pressure on the guys. Hence, a sign of gratitude will always makes for a nice start.

First dates are usually filled with awkward moments. Embrace this awkwardness and turn it into a relaxing situation. Acknowledge both your anxiousness and laugh off the situation. If the guy looks nervous, find a way to draw him to his comfort zone and that will make him feel great.

Avoid irritating actions like taking calls and doing text messaging. This is a sure signal to the guy that you are not interested. In cases when you are, don’t grill the guy of every bit of information as if you are the police. Asking the guy everything from his education, career, parents, hobbies and so much more is not flattering at all.

Lastly, provide positive reinforcement. If you had a great time during the date, tell the guy so. It offers them a clue of snagging another yes on the second date.

Recently, a whooping cough outbreak has occurred in California. With 910 cases and 5 infant deaths, the disease was immediately declared an epidemic by the state health officials. But what is exactly a whooping cough?

Whooping cough is otherwise known as pertussis. It is a highly contagious disease of the respiratory system caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis. The name whooping comes from the noise the affected person makes when taking a breath after a cough.

So, who is most at risk? It’s the unimmunized or incompletely immunized infants. Although, anyone can get affected it is particularly serious and can be fatal to the babies and small children.

The sudden rise in the occurrence of whooping cough may be brought about by parents who refuse to vaccinate their kids. They believe that vaccination can cause other ailments like autism. However, it has been indicated that the use of pertussis vaccine has reduced the annual deaths significantly. Parents who opt not to subject their children for vaccination are taking a big risk.

Nevertheless, spotting the symptoms of whooping cough can be very helpful for early diagnosis and treatment. Often the disease starts similar to a common cold with symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, mild coughing and slight fever. After two weeks, it then progresses to uncontrollable fits of coughing with the distinct whooping sound as the patients struggles to breathe. It may be accompanied by vomiting. Further complications of this disease can lead to pneumonia, earache, seizures and even brain damage.

With infants, one should be very critical with the symptoms as they do not exhibit the characteristic whooping sound. They appear gasping for air with their reddened faces. During bad coughing spells, the babies can even stop breathing.

Whooping cough is a serious condition so if you suspect your child to have one then better consult your physician immediately.

Football fever is wafting in the air as the World Cup is still in progress. This sport is the craze right now all over the world. And, there’s something in football that makes it endearing. It’s not the electrifying rocketing of the ball towards the goal or the glorious chanting of the fans. It’s the unique tradition of the football shirt swap.

For players in other sports, a handshake or a tap in the shoulder is enough to acknowledge the performance of their opponents at the end of the game. But in football, they have a distinct way of ending the game. They take their shirts or jerseys off and exchange them with their combatants. This is a grand display of sportsmanship that we have not seen in other sports.

This tradition has started more than 50 years ago. The first ever recorded incident was in 1931 when the French team asked to keep their English opponent’s jerseys to commemorate their victory. Since then the swapping of football uniforms by players has caught on.

It was even magnified during the 1970s in the North American Soccer League when Pele signed in for the New York Cosmos. Pele was a huge attraction that it even required 25 -30 shirts to be provided for him to accommodate the requests of the swaps. This was often the case as even the less well-known players are fighting their way to get hold and swap shirts with the more popular players of football superstars.

This posed no problems for the player as the teams issue a fresh kit of jerseys for every match.

When we think of lions, the first thing that comes to mind is the phrase “King of the Jungle”. Few animals would dare challenge a lion in the wild even when they are extremely hungry. But this is not the case in a restaurant in Mesa, Arizona. Restaurant owner Cameron Selogie of II Vinaio restaurant was able to whip up a new dish – the lion burgers.

As expected, it has caused so much stir and ire from many people that the restaurateur has received 250 angry e-mails from animal activists and even a bomb threat. It’s not surprising considering that this is quite the first time we ever hear of a lions being served up as a meal.

Well, just imagine your favorite Lion King character Simba come to life and be slaughtered for burger meat. It’s horrible, right? What is sad is that we know the lions are classified as threatened species and are fast becoming an endangered one.

Though the animal was not poached, as the restaurant owner claims he bought the meat from a free-range farm in Illinois and the farm was approved and regulated by the United States Department of Agriculture. Nevertheless, the owner should be more conscious of the impact his exotic dish will bring about. If we start serving lion burgers now, what exotic animal would be next on the list? Restaurants find ways to make their business known, no matter what the consequences are. This will cause a race for some to create outrageous food dishes using exotic animals that are not only sure to shock the palates of some but also our sensibilities.
